Venner Shipley, an intellectual property (IP) law firm with focuses including life sciences, pharmaceuticals and medtech, has announced the opening of a new office in Bristol.

The Bristol office is located in a region already known for its contribution to the sectors specialised in by Venner Shipley. This will help the firm to work closely with companies developing and commercialising new technologies in the chemical, biological and medical sectors. There is an established need for IP expertise in these areas, since intellectual property is vital for protecting investments and supporting growth. Venner Shipley’s latest expansion responds to this need.

The many advantages offered by the south west of England include academic institutions, strong manufacturing capacity and an innovation environment that fosters new technologies in areas such as diagnostics, healthcare, personalised medicine, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the recent drive to integrate AI in these sectors raises new challenges relating to IP and creates opportunities for Venner Shipley.

Venner Shipley staff already working in the south west will now have a permanent location. The firm also hopes to bring in new IP expertise to support its UK and European presence. The Bristol office is the latest in Venner Shipley’s extensive list of offices. Other offices are located in London, Cambridge, Guildford, Manchester, Tunbridge Wells, Oxford, Madrid and Munich.

Siân Gill, managing partner at Venner Shipley, said: “Bristol is an exciting hub for innovation and a natural location for our continued growth. The city’s strong links between academia, industry and technology, combined with its strengths in chemistry, life sciences, healthcare and digital innovation, make it an ideal base for supporting businesses developing and commercialising new ideas.”
