The PharmaTimes Medical & Scientific Awards (MSEA) and the Nursing Industry Excellence Awards (NIEA) celebrated professionals within medical affairs and the outstanding work of nursing professionals in the industry on 11 July.
Taking place at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London, the event began with a reception before guests were seated to eagerly find out who would be the NIEA and MSEA 2024 winners.
Taking to the stage to welcome guests, former NHS mental health clinical lead, psychotherapist and Sunday Times bestselling author Owen O’Kane hosted this year’s awards, which included seven categories plus two special NIEA awards.
Beginning with MSEA, returning for the first time since 2019, the first award of the ceremony, New Medical Science Liaison of the Year went to Novo Nordisk’s Dr Ana Cruz, followed by the Experienced Medical Scientific Liaison of the Year award sponsored by Datapharm, which went to Novo Nordisk’s Dr Fethi Sadouki.
The ceremony progressed onto the NIEA awards, which involved two sponsored awards: Inizio’s Innovation Excellence Award which was awarded to Natalie Bingham, Jade Mickelsen and Hollie Murphy from Lloydspharmacy Clinical Homecare, and the Team Excellence of the Year award, sponsored by Iqvia, which was awarded to Inizio’s Julie Ballard, Amanda Alexander, Vicci Spence and Kim Matthews.
Towards the end of the ceremony, Inizio Engage’s managing director, UK and Ireland, Kate Kelly, took the stage to announce the two additional NIEA awards: the Overall Nurse of the Year and the Overall Team of the Year, where she accredited the room of nursing professionals to have “a lot of passion for the work” – “driving innovation and exceptional change for patient outcomes”.
The Overall Nurse of the Year award was awarded to Inizio’s Caroline McGlynn, who also received the Leadership Excellence Award. She commented on her achievement: “It’s not just me winning this award… I’m lucky enough to work with a fabulous team that makes a difference in patients’ lives on a day-to-day basis [and] having recognition for my nursing after such a long time in the industry is really special to me.”

Following that, the second award, the Overall Team of the Year, went to Lloydspharmacy Clinical Homecare’s Natalie Bingham, Jade Mickelsen and Hollie Murphy as their second win of the ceremony.
The team commented: “We are so happy to have achieved this award. It’s been a group effort, a lot of hours of work…. This achievement… [as well as] being surrounded by so many healthcare professionals who are all passionate about the same thing… reminds us why we do what we do.”

Vincent Lody, managing director, PharmiWeb and NIEA judge, commented: “We saw the passion coming out in both of these winners; they both really cared and wanted to make a real difference… to help patients. I was blown away by Caroline’s professional, innovative and inspirational attitude and so impressed by [Lloydspharmacy Clinical Homecare’s] entry and the effort they went through to make it happen.”
The event concluded with an afternoon of celebrations and networking to mark the end of the returning MSEA awards and NIEA awards.
