Three pharma firms have been held to account by the ABPI for breaching its Code of Practice and ‘bringing discredit’ upon the industry.

The controversial healthcare reform bill has moved through the House of Commons with a majority of 65, and will now pass to the House of Lords for ratification. Despite the threat of LibDem opposition, only four voted against the Bill while 11 abstained.

One third of diabetes patients miss taking their insulin treatment an average three times a month, according to an international study involving more than 1,500 type 1 and type 2 diabetics. And the situation is even more critical in the UK where one in four fail to take their insulin as prescribed.

Shares in Germany’s Bayer jumped 4% yesterday after the company revealed its once daily oral clotbuster Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was superior to the gold standard warfarin, with less risk of bleeding, in protecting against stroke among patients with atrial fibrillation.
